Paint by Nature
If you’re seeking an exciting and fun way to spend the day, we’ve got just the thing for you! Paint by Nature is a great opportunity to learn about nature and paint simultaneously.
You will meet outside the nature center, where you’ll take a short walk to see the subject of your painting. Then, you’ll move indoors to paint! The instructor will give guidance and information about the nature center. A canvas, paint, and brushes will be provided, and the center will display a photo for you to be a reference while painting. At the end of the program, you’ll get to take your beautiful painting home with you!
Toadly Virtual Event
Toadly hosted a successful online event. With our efforts, we were able to share information about the Houston Wilderness with over 200 people who expressed an interest in doing so.
The function set out to:
- Safeguard the habitats of over 370 different types of avian, mammalian, reptilian, and amphibian species
- Save Houston’s last unchanneled Bayou, vital for flood prevention and water quality
- Maintain access to one of the largest urban wilderness areas in the United States through education and tourism programs
- Protect and restore 2,500 acres of forest, prairie, and wetlands along the dwindling Gulf Coast between Houston and Galveston
City Nature Challenge 2022
People around the globe participate in the City Nature Challenge conducted annually. It’s an event that pits friendly competition against cooperative efforts in the name of science. Cities collaborate on a shared goal of documenting species for conservation and urban planning. Still, they also compete to get the most nature observations, find the most species, and engage the most citizen scientists.
This is where the center launched our iNaturalist app. It’s a new way to log as many species as possible for the Nature Challenge 2022. iNaturalist is an online platform that allows you to document animals, plants, and fungi in your area. You can even use the app if you’re out of town and want to log what’s around you! The app has been used by millions of people worldwide, so it’s proven very popular among nature enthusiasts.
